As Long As I Can Stand
To the vulture sitting atop the carcass
gazing eye to eye with a chunk of meat hanging from its beak
Mercy me, I say as I try to pull my organs towards me
Tucking my lower intestine under my shirt
The gaping hole in my belly gives me no pain
But the anxiety hurts just the same
As I struggle to piece together the scattered flesh
While this bird creeps towards me with his diseased feathers
But I have time still to sow up my guts
And I will fall behind if I don’t leave the remnants
So I left a few organs behind
It’s better than being eaten alive
As long as I can stand, the vulture wont bite
As long as I can walk, I can still get away
I can still pick up whats left of what I’ve forgotten
Otherwise my heart and stomach can just grow back
