Harmony and Santa
Harmony is laying in his bed, it is dark and his window is frosted over, he can see snowflakes falling down against the pitch black new moon sky.
The calming image tires him so he turns to his side.
He begins to fall asleep until he sees a strange shadow draped over his quilt, his eyes are now wide open. He is curious if the figure was really there or if it was something cliche like a tree branch outside. Unfortunately, Harmony has no trees around his house.
Harmony shuts his eyes but his heart is pounding too fast, he is now sweating and too cold to fall asleep. He opens his eyes again and sees a fuzzy red jacket in front of him.
SANTA: Come with me Harmony, we’ve got plenty to do
HARMONY: What the shit! How in the world did you get in here, who are you?!?!? Please just take my things and go, I dont need them!
SANTA: Don’t be foolish boy, take my hand, it’s going to be a busy night, lets go!
Santa grabs Harmony and he doesnt resist. They run through the halls of Harmony’s old creaky home and then down the stairs
SANTA: Alright this is gonna be kind of strange, just hold on to me.
Santa throws magical dust in the air, they both run through it and suddenly they are sitting in a sleigh hundreds of feet in the air
HARMONY: Wow.. so you are really Santa Clause? I mean, all my life i thought Santa was fake…
SANTA: HOHOHO! [pats harmony on shoulder] Yep, kids and their Disney Channel, it’s hard to keep them faithful nowadays. Even jesus is having a hard time these days HOHO! It does make my job easier though, not having to dodge as many kids sleeping downstairs.
HARMONY: This is strange, Santa, why have you abducted me?
SANTA: Well i’ve got the diabetes and i need you to help me eat some of the cookies, you dont ven have to eat the whole plate, just take a bite to make it look like we brushed by
HARMONY: I can do that… I suppose
SANTA: HOHOHO! You’re easier to fool than the Mrs!!!
HARMONY: what do you mean?
SANTA: Never mind. How is your brother doing, Harmony?
HARMONY: I suppose he is doing well.
SANTA: You suppose? Tell me what you mean, by you suppose, son.
HARMONY: I really do not know much about Armor’s life currently. I mean I know he works a lot. He calls me a lot… to see how im doing and its nice of him yeah. I say I suppose because I think he is in trouble… He’s been reticent lately, acting different. He’s real angry lately.
SANTA: You don’t say? We can pay him a visit, we’ve got time
HARMONY: If we have time, sure
Santa and Harmony zip through the sky
HARMONY: Santa, Armor’s house was that way
SANTA: Yes, we’ll see his family later, lets go see Armor first
HARMONY: um ok.
Santa and Harmony fly and stop in front of Armor’s office building, they are hovering at the 54th floor. Armor is banging a woman.
HARMONY: Whoa, who is that
SANTA: That’s Armor
HARMONY: No who’s that woman
SANTA: His secretary
HARMONY: Why are they doing that?
SANTA: Armor’s been on my bad list for 22 years, Harmony. If you ask me, he’s being a real animal. You should get him neutered HOHOHO!
HARMONY: But im not sure if he’d appreciate if i told him that
SANTA: You know, you crack me up. I was just joshin you.
HARMONY: He must have told his wife. Armor would never—
SANTA: I hate to say this, but you are one naive fellow
HARMONY: oh.
SANTA: Harmony, you really should be more involved in your brother’s life. When’s the last time you asked about whats goin on in his life?
HARMONY: Not in years, really. Not recently. Usually, he asks me.
SANTA: If you had a feeling he was in trouble, why didn’t you ask him?
HARMONY: Armor can usually take care of himself. He even takes care of me… and his family…
SANTA: Sounds like Armor has his hands full.
HARMONY: He certainly does. Should i feel guilty that i am leeching off of him?
SANTA: hohoho! now don’t you worry about feeling too guilty now! Just don’t be greedy! I know you’re a good soul, Harmony, as long as your intentions are good.
HARMONY: If you say so.
SANTA: atta boy!
HARMONY: Santa, why did you ask me how my brother was if you already know everything about everybody?
SANTA: I wanted to see what you would say. Wanted to see if you would lie to me.
HARMONY: Don’t you already know enough about me to be able to predict if i would?
SANTA: hohoho! Santa doesn’t like to judge people, boy, it doesn’t sit right in my stomach! Maybe its all those sweets the Mrs. always gives me hohoho!
HARMONY: I see… Are we going to deliver gifts ?
SANTA: I’m afraid it is too early Harmony. I only wanted a quick chat, wanted some time to get to know you.
HARMONY: Me?
SANTA: You’re the lucky one from the list this year.
HARMONY: Why have i never heard any stories about this before?
SANTA: Not sure, maybe you have never met somebody that it has happened to before.
HARMONY: This has to be a dream.
SANTA: Hohoho! alright mister hot shot, you’re calling the shots here, who am i to tell you what to believe. In fact, a few minutes ago, i didn’t even truly exist to you.
HARMONY: My dreams are mostly lifelike so sometimes i cannot tell. But I am usually dreaming when unusual things like this usually happen… This just seems very strange.I don’t mean to offend you.. if I am not dreaming that is.
SANTA: So if you were dreaming, you wouldn’t care if i was offended or not?
HARMONY: I suppose not. It’s just a dream, i am offending a dream person.
SANTA: Dream people don’t have feelings too?
HARMONY: They probably have dream feelings… but why would they care ? It is a dream.
SANTA: Well maybe you are right, maybe it wouldn’t matter in the end, huh?
HARMONY: No. I would wake up and never see that dream person again.
SANTA: So that means you would not mind offending anybody in your waking world, if you know you would never meet them again?
HARMONY: No, i do not like to offend anybody at all in the waking world. I always feel there is a possibility i would meet the person again. It is a small world out there.
SANTA: You don’t believe it is possible then to dream up the same dream person again? What if you dream up the same dream person you offended and they now hold a grudge against you. Wouldn’t that make you feel awful in your dream? you seem to be sympathetic of people in your waking world.
HARMONY: If this was a dream, i feel awful right now.
SANTA: What if it was a dream, what if i told you right now that you were dreaming.
HARMONY: I don’t think anything would change, really. Eventually i would just wake up.
SANTA: Alright what if you aren’t dreaming. What if this was the real thing.
HARMONY: I kind of thought it was anyways. I mean, you know that my brother was being unfaithful, i had no idea of that. You knew my brother was in distress. I didn’t know that and it makes sense if i put the puzzle pieces together.
SANTA: Hohoho! You really are gullible.
HARMONY: …what?
SANTA: This isn’t real boy! Have you gone silly on me?
HARMONY: How is this not real? You are telling me things i have never thought of before, i did not even know those things about Armor.
SANTA: Harmony, did you forget that in dreams, most anything can happen. You’ve dreamt before, how have you forgotten already?
HARMONY: But if this is a dream, it would have to be me… me who dreamt this all up, me who thought this whole conversation through. I have never assumed any infidelity by Armor!
SANTA: But you did tell me you sensed a disturbance in his usual behavior
HARMONY: Jeez, this really is a strange dream. Do you mind if you take me home now?
Harmony wakes up and it is morning.
